Hello dear forumites. Since the road trip from Las Vegas to Sheri’s Ranch is about an hour long, I’m wondering if there is a rest stop along the way. The reason I’m asking is because I drink a lot of water for health reason (especially in hot summer) and often, I need to take restroom break during the hour-long trip.
I would try to go before going through the mountains. On the way back I have stopped at the nearest shopping mall
Is there a sign that states “Rest Area” or something like that before going through it? And how long is the drive from Las Vegas to a rest stop?
No signs like that. I would look on the LV side for strip malls. I have not stopped between Sheri’s and that side of the pass.
Your best bet would be to stop on Blue Diamond road on your way out of Vegas, just before you leave civilization there is a Terrible’s gas station on the left side of the road. From there to the next bathroom it’s about 45 minutes to the Lakeside Casino on Homestead road (make sure you go in the Casino side and not the gas station, there are no bathrooms there).
There are no formal rest stops or rest areas like you find along California highways. As you head out from Vegas proper, you’ll be in the flat suburbs for about 15 minutes before things start to thin out and you start the mountain climb and descent over the next 15 minutes. You can stop at the last gas station before the mountain as Flint mentioned. There is a biker bar near the summit called the Mountain Spring Saloon, but unless your having a drink there, I don’t know that it would be cool to just pump and dump there. Once you descend back to the flats, there are no businesses at all until you get to Pahrump. If you take the side streets to Sheri’s, it’s about a 10-15 minute drive from the edge of Pahrump to Sheri’s, but not much in the way businesses you can stop at, but it you go down the main street, there are plenty of businesses to stop at, including the casino that techguy80 mentions.
You may also want to talk to a urologist, as your should consider whether that level of urinary frequency may interfere with your party time at Sheri’s, and to rule out other treatable causes, such as an overactive bladder or an enlarged prostate. It may also be helpful to discuss with the urologist whether there is any peer-reviewed, clinical evidence to support a health benefit for a water intake that would cause that frequency of urination.
You should pack a cooler or backpack with food, water, and other supplies. Also the trip is much shorter if you floor it and drive 80mph most of the way (unless you see a cop car). haha
After exiting the mountains, the speed limit might be 70 or 75 mph, so I don’t think anyone would bat an eye at 80 mph, but the risk is that there is a tendency to go 90+ mph, since it’s just a flat straight road with minimal traffic. Especially for metropolitan Californians, you have to fight the urge to go too fast.
As for a rest stop. Ummm, well if you can’t make it the hour or so out there, then pull over and find a bush to water! It’s mostly sand and brush along the way, so you won’t hurt anything. You might have to search a bit for a bit of cover from passersby in order to avoid any indecent exposure, but otherwise I say the Nevada desert IS your rest stop 😉
RE Speeding: I have heard that the State Patrol is VERY strict on speed coming into/out of Pahrump, presumably to snag those folks getting antsy at the end of a long drive (and eager to get to Sheri’s).
I’m a bit of a lead foot, but I do back off a bit, and try to keep an eye out for patrol cars as I approach town.
Also, the local cops apparently love to pick off cars leaving the ranch late at night…looking for DUI stops, for which they also have ZERO tolerance.
Just a tip to keep it slow and sober when traveling to/from the ranch.
