December 6, 2015 at 7:23 pm #16355kaneParticipantOK, here are mine, (This includes TV Christmas specials as well as films).:
1. A Charlie Brown Christmas – Linus Van Pelt’s explanation of the meaning of Christmas is one of the greatest things ever made for TV.
2. How The Grinch Stole Christmas. 1966 Cartoon version – Chuck Jones’s animation coupled with a script by Seuss, songs by Tony The Tiger himself, Thurl Ravenscroft, and narration by Boris Karloff. How can it be other than supreme?
3. A Christmas Story.- Who Knew that the director of raunchy sex comedy, Porky’s could make such a classic, that one of the kids would wind up doing porn, or that Ralphie would produce Iron Man?
4. Love, Actually.- Multiple interconnected stories all culminating around Christmas. One of my late wife’s all time favorites.
5. Rudolph, The Red Nosed Reindeer. – The first TV Christmas special, from 1964, by the excellent Rankin-Bass stop motion studio. See the Mad TV spoof, “Martin Scorsese’s Raging Rudolph” if you have not, it is brilliant.
Honorable mention: TV special Santa Claus Is Coming To Town. – Another Rankin Bass, featuring Fred Astare narration and a bad guy called the Burgermeister Meisterburger. That alone makes it worth seeing.
